May 9, 2008:

RETROACTIVE PAY: Eligible Technicians in the N.I.O. Groups that got raises will be paid back to the effective date of the Local Agreement (Thursday, May 1, 2008). As of Monday, May 19, 2008, the National Parties have still not approved the Ratified Local Agreement.

HOLIDAY PAY: Per Paragraph (203) of the National Agreement, May 23, 2008 (Friday before Memorial Day) and Monday, May 26, 2008 (Memorial Day) are paid holidays and eligible employees will receive 8 hours pay for each holiday provided they meet the following eligibility rules:

1) The employee has seniority as of the date of each holiday.
2) The employee would otherwise have been scheduled to work.
3) The employee must have worked the last scheduled work day prior to and next scheduled work day after each specified holiday within the employee’s scheduled work week.
(Remember, holiday qualifying days must be approved in advance.) Ref. Document #8, National Agreement.

DEADLINE FOR S.A.P. – 2008: Is May 22, 2008, Thursday at 6:00 P.M.

SUMMER SHUTDOWN WORK: Applications to work the Independence week (June 30th thru July 4th) and the Vacation Shutdown week (July 7th thru July 11th, 2008) are available in Personnel and on working Kiosks with printers. You must sign up 4 weeks in advance (before May 30, 2008).

LAY OFFS: On Friday, May 16, 2008, Management recalled 70 employees from lay off due to a tentative Local Agreement at the Delta Township Plant which affected us. 60 Technicians, 10 Skilled Trades = Total 70. We still have about 201 members out because of American Axle and volume reductions at other General Motors locations.

CAR SHOW: The GM/UAW Burn Center/American Cruisers Car Show was held under adverse conditions Sunday, May 18, 2008 and a good time was had by all, in spite of the conditions. Thanks to all the UAW members and Management Staff for their volunteer efforts. Proceeds to benefit the Burn Center.

UAW LOCAL 1005 GOLD TOURNAMENT: Will be held Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Mallard Creek. (See Union Bulletin Boards for notice.)

LOCAL ELECTIONS: Congratulations to all who ran in the recent General Elections. A list of winners is posted on UAW Bulletin Boards.

RUN OFFS: For the Offices of President and Guide will be held at the UAW Hall Tuesday May 20, 2008 from 4:00 AM til 12 Midnight.

COMMITTEEMEN’S ELECTIONS: The elections for Committeemen and Alternate Committeemen will be held at the Local 1005 Union Hall on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 4:00 A.M. til 12 Midnight.

CLEVELAND GLADIATORS: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the representative for the Cleveland Gladiators was not able to come to the plant last Friday. However, there will be a Cleveland Gladiators representative available in the plant cafeteria on Thursday, May 22, 2008 between 11:00 AM – 12 NOON and 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM for your convenience to purchase or upgrade tickets. The game will be held Saturday, May 31st against the Dallas Desperados at the Quicken Loans Arena.
