SUB-COUNCILS: January 25th through January 28th President Tito Boneta and Shop Chairman Ken Jelen attended the Production and Skilled Trades Sub-Councils, District Shop Committeeman Jim Spring joined us for the Production Sub-Council January 27th and 28th per Membership action at the January 10, 2010 Union Meeting. While at Sub-Councils, we saw that the other Local Unions all have the same problems, however, Parma Local 1005 is in much better shape because we are ahead of the curve in every measure. With the Federal Government stepping in now and insisting that the U.A.W. & G.M. comply with the 2009 changes to the 2007 National Agreement.
1) A C.O.A. score of 93% or better!
2) Document 157 Production Maintenance Partnership enhanced.
3) Document 159 - Exit Permanently all Major non-strategic work elements.
4) Document 112 - Blurring Lines on Demarcation.
5) Combine Splinter Trades into Core Trades.
6) Go to 3 Major Classifications: Electrical, Mechanical, Tool & Die.
The Federal Government insists we not only negotiate these issues through L.M.O.U.s (Local Memos of Understanding), but that we are 100% Compliant! They are also demanding GM/UAW implement the agreed upon changes immediately. So, our membership is experiencing many changes taking place on the plant floor. The Shop Committee is ensuring all or any changes happening are in accordance with the 2009 National Agreement Amendment.

GM DISCOUNTS: Per the Umpire Staff, you are currently allowed 6 Friends and Family Discounts per year and one (1) Supplier Discount per month. Follow the guidelines and procedures! There are six (6) related discharges at the Umpire already and “Many” discipline cases stripping employees of future participation and requirement to repay of monies fraudulently discounted.

PARARAPH 96 MOVES: We are receiving 20 more members from Mansfield on Monday, February 8, 2010, and the last 8 will be coming in March 2010. Per the National Agreement, Paragraph 96 people come with their Seniority, so they have the same shift preference and transfer rights as if they had always been in Parma. Management is honoring their Seniority Rights accordingly. Management is filling job openings for new work, in accordance with a plan they drew up six (6) months ago!

N.E.P.C.: Randy Lentz, Union Co-ordinator for employee placement at the N.E.P.C. (National Employee Placement Center) has advised us that the Paragraph 96 Transfer Moves are correct, because they are calculated based on actual jobs not on equipment. The N.E.P.C. review states the number of jobs from Grand Rapids, Pontiac and Mansfield was not effected by changes in equipment. In fact, we are 33 Production and 20 Skilled Trades employees short because the last 33 employees from Grand Rapids elected not to transfer to Parma.

Grand Rapids: Negotiated 43 total - 33 Production - 10 Skilled Trades,
actually transferred -0- Production - 7 Skilled Trades.
Pontiac: Negotiated 73 total - 52 Production - 21 Skilled Trades,
actually transferred - 52 Production - 4 Skilled Trades.
Mansfield: Negotiated 133 total - 96 Production - 46 Skilled Trades,
actually transferred - 88 Production - 33 Skilled Trades.
The last 8 Production will transfer March 29, 2010.
The 13 Diemakers will transfer June 28, 2010.

POLICY GRIEVANCES ON G.M. PERKS AND RAISES: Have been filed by the International Union protesting G.M. not giving the same treatment to its’ hourly workforce! Equity of Sacrifice!

WEAR A WHITE SHIRT ON FEBRUARY 11TH : Get out your winter white - a clean white shirt, that is - to honor the General Motors’ sit-down strikers in Flint, Michigan, who gained UAW recognition in a 44 day fight during the winter of 1936-1937.
For more than 70 years UAW men and women have marked February 11th as the historic day in 1937 when GM agreed to recognize the union and negotiate a contract. Working people in Flint and throughout America had triumphed. White Shirt Day celebrates workplace empowerment. The shirts represent equal respect and treatment for blue-collar workers, and the unity and strength of UAW members.
It started in 1948 when Bert Christensen, a member of the UAW Local 598 Education Committee, suggested White Shirt Day to mark the end of the sit-down strike. He wanted workers to wear the white-collar attire traditionally worn by Managers to show the company they were just as important as Management.
Men and women throughout the UAW continue to celebrate it.

UAW LOCAL 1005 CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT: Reminder Pre-Registration deadline is February 19, 2010. Please see flyer on bulletin boards for complete details!!!
