Obama Campaign: The Democratic Headquarters for Senator Barack Obama will be holding several campaign functions beginning Thursday, July 31, 2008 through Sunday, August 3, 2008 as follows:

Thursday, July 31, 2008 - Call bank from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 2, 2008 - Door to door campaigning at 10:00 a.m.
Door to door campaigning at 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 3, 2008 - Door to door campaigning at 12:00 noon.
The Democratic Headquarters is located at 5580 Ridge Road, Parma, Ohio.

Monday, August 4, 2008 a call bank and a birthday celebration will be held at the Democratic Headquarters at 5580 Ridge Road, Parma, Ohio to celebrate the birthdays of Senator Barack Obama and Governor Ted Strickland. This is a potluck affair, so please bring a dish. Also, bring your cell phone for another call bank.

Union Picnic: Please bring your GM identification if you will be signing up for the free raffle on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at our Union Picnic being held at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Please go to the front pavilion for sign up. We’re looking forward to seeing all of you for this fun filled day. Tickets will be on sale at the Union Hall and the Caddy Shack until Friday, August 1, 2008. The meal tickets will only be on sale until tomorrow Thursday, July 31, 2008. After August 1, 2008 if you change your mind and would like to attend, you can purchase entrance tickets at the Cedar Point main gate between the ticket purchase area and the entrance area. Just look for the UAW booth.

2nd Annual Motorcycle Benefit Run: Let’s not forget the UAW Local 1005 2nd Annual Motorcycle Benefit Run being held on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Pre-registration is $20.00 per bike/$25.00 with a rider. Same day registration is $25.00 per bike/$30.00 with a rider. The run will be starting and ending at the Union Hall, 5615 Chevrolet Blvd., Parma, Ohio. First bike out at 10:00 a.m./last bike out by 11:30 a.m. Live music, steak dinner, door prizes, 50/50 raffle, dyno runs, and a whole lot more. Come and join the fun. All proceeds will benefit our Veterans and their families in the local area.

T.A.P: We are currently awaiting Cal Rapson’s response regarding the appointment of John Harbert as our TAP Coordinator. Until such time, John will be functioning in this position. If you need to contact him, please call 216-265-5282.

Temporary Employees: Management will be hiring an additional 24 temporary employees; they are scheduled to start Friday, August 1, 2008. They will be in training for 6 days and are tentatively scheduled to report to the floor starting Monday, August 11, 2008.

Temporary Layoffs: Management has also announced a potential temporary layoff of some temporary employees commencing the week of August 25, 2008. (Actual numbers are not available at this time). This is due to de-rates and lost shifts at Truck and SUV assembly plants. More details will follow when they become available.
