Message from the JTR
For
our newly transferred employees, welcome!
The T.A.P.
office is located in the Benefits Complex located off of
the main aisle at N3. Tuition Assistance applications are
in the rack beside the door, in the top slot and also can
be downloaded from the JAS website at https://www.uawgmjas.org/j/ under "ONLINE
DOCUMENTS". If you have any questions, place
your name on the call sheet on the door or call
216-265-5282 and leave a message with your name, phone
number, shift, work location and a brief message. Please
speak slowly as the answering machine is old and the
message quality is low.
Who is covered?
At this time, only actively working UAW/GM employees and
laid off UAW/GM employees have tuition assistance
benefits re-instated. The program is not paying for
dependent children scholarship or retiree onsites at this
time. If these elements of the program get reinstated in
the future, information about them will be posted here.
Effective
August 1, 2010 TAP has been reinstated for active
employees for course work commencing on or after August
1, 2010.
The UAW-GM Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP) provides
eligible workers with financial assistance to attend
licensed or accredited schools. Course eligibility is
limited to High School Completion/Equivalency, two
year/four year degree plans of study, and courses taken
to maintain/improve skills or knowledge in work related
subject matter.
Educational institutions must be pre-approved by TAP
administration to be eligible. Payments for tuition and
appropriate fees can be made directly to the educational
institution or made to the employee as a reimbursement
for eligible out-of-pocket expenditures if the
institution does not accept vouchers.
To be eligible for tuition assistance, an active worker
must:
be
a UAW represented GM employee
be
on the active employment roll with seniority, or on
temporary layoff
Per the memorandum of understanding for entry level
employees, employees described by that memorandum are not
eligible for tuition assistance. Employees are not
eligible for tuition assistance during a medical leave of
absence or if they accept a voluntary termination of
employment, such as buy-out.
Plan details and benefit levels for active workers are
summarized below:
Up
to $5,000 per year for degree related courses taken at
regionally accredited colleges or universities of which
$200 may be used for the purchase of books.
Up
to $2,200 per year for other job related courses.
Up
to $1,450 per year for personal enhancement courses.
In no event shall the total assistance to an employee
exceed $5,000 per twelve-month period (January 1
December 31). Each course will be reviewed and
categorized as to whether it is degree related or job
related. Funds will be issued up to the appropriate
dollar limits. The spouse or dependent children of a
deceased active TAP eligible employee is entitled to
utilize the remaining balance of the employees
current years TAP eligibility and will continue as
TAP eligible during the remainder of the present GM-UAW
contract agreement (September 2011).
