History Month: Facts and figures.
We are 154.7
million strong as of October,2008. At 85 and older, there
were more than twice as many women than men. 82.8 million
are mothers. The median earnings of women in 07 was
$34,278. Many earning only 77.5 cents for every dollar
earned by men.
$61,957 median earnings of women working in computer and
mathematical jobs.
Education: 33% of women 25-29 have
bachelor's degree= 28.2 million women. This rate is 20%
more than 20 years ago. 928,000 women will achieve their
bachelor degree's this year. 391,000 will obtain their
master degree in 2009 and 50% of medical and law degrees
will also be awarded to women.
Jobs: 71 million women over 16 were
working in 2007= 59%. 73% of men were working. 38% were
in management or professionals. 11.2 million women worked
in health care and 8.6 million in education. 62% of our
taxes are prepared by women and 62% of travel agents are
women. 94,000 female police officers, 14,000
firefighters,330,000 lawyers, 266,000 physicians and
36,000 pilots.
Businesses: Almost 117,000 women owned
businesses grossing $1 million or more. 6.5 million own
their own business. Over 7 million people are employed by
women generating $274 billion.
Military: 198,440 women are on active
duty. 33,500 officers. Women now comprise 14% of Armed
forces today. Compared to 2% in 1950. 1.8 million are
veterans.
Marriage: 62 million are married. 18% of
married women earned more than their husband. 5.6 million
are stay at home moms.
Sports: 3 million girls participate in
high school athletic programs. Up 40% from 1979. And
174,534 women participated in college sports. (source;US

occupations were only to be Teachers,Secretaries or
Nurses. Today! You can dream and achieve all of
