All UAW Local 1005 Members

This year, UAW Local 1005 has formed
an online Walk Team to raise awareness of depression and
suicide prevention and to support the efforts of the
Cleveland non-profit organization, Suicide Prevention
Education Alliance (SPEA). This non-profit organization
is dedicated to the prevention of suicide through
education right here in greater Cleveland, Ohio. SPEA has
delivered its high school classroom program to more than
44,000 students in 69 high schools since December 2000.
SPEAs professional instructors teach students how
to identify individuals who may be at risk of suicide;
how to respond; and where to refer. Teens who make a plan
to take their lives often inform a friend. The goal of
the program is to cause students who are at risk of
suicide to seek the help of a mental health professional.
Did you
know...
More Americans suffer from
depression than coronary heart disease
(7 million), cancer (6 million) and AIDS (200,000)
combined.
A person dies by suicide about every 16 minutes in the
United States. An attempt is estimated to be made once
every minute.
